This is particularly exciting as we have had a number of wholesale nurseries contact us to learn how they can either implement the GrowersOwn software or extend their existing ERP systems to support RFID. RFID is particularly well suited to the nursery industry as they have a closed loop environments and need item level inventory tracking for Work In Process (WIP). 

A number of companies have tried barcodes, but always have limited success because barcodes require a clean line of sight and short distance from the scanner to the barcode label. RFID, on the other hand, can read through dirty, moist or foliage covered labels, and can do so at distances up to 40 feet.

As discussed in the article, we are extending the RFID system to include greenhouse (warehouse) level item location tracking.  We have already tested a working RFID cart for mobile RFID Inventory Location Tracking. This is ‘the Holy Grail’ of the greenhouse industry, as it allows growers to roll our RFID inventory cart through their greenhouses and quickly produce a list of all items (by serial number) and the row in which they are located. The RFID Inventory Locator can be used standalone, without integration into existing systems.
