An example of one of our barcode & RFID implementations includes a Mercedes Benz supplier:
The automotive industry supply chain is pushing RFID for faster and more accurate tracking. A US supplier to Mercedes learned that they were going to have to trace a specific set of parts through their whole manufacturing and distribution process. The bins containing these parts were shipped with RFID tags and the supplier needed to automatically read the tag and execute worksteps based on the tag.
BizSpeed configured our software to track the inbound and internal part bins based on their RFID tags. As parts bins passed within read-range of the operators workstations, the RFID read generated standard workflows and prevented operators from incorrectly assembling parts. The worksteps and parts were managed via industrial touchscreen terminals. When assembly was complete, we automatically generated a barcode label for each constituent part.
The result was that the operators could use RFID to automatically determine the parts that were shipped without having to search for barcode labels. The RFID tags for parts bins could be re-used while the long-term tracking was done via barcode labels, which are significantly less expensive.
